RAVEN 乌鸦

中国人通常认为乌鸦是一种不吉利的动物，是不幸的象征。然而英国却视乌鸦为宝贝。

There is a popular saying goes in Britain: when avens leave the tower, the building and the monarchy will fall. The Britain government spendsmuch money on raising ravens and taking good care of them. Because it’s said that the raven in tower of London can make the country not be attacked. Otherwise, the country will suffer some bad things.

因为英国有一种传说：如果伦敦塔所有的大乌鸦离开的话，不列颠王国将会崩溃。现在的政府仍然负担开支，在塔内饲养乌鸦，相传只要塔里还有乌鸦，英格兰就不会受到侵略，反之，国家将会遭逢厄运。

SPIDER 蜘蛛

蜘蛛在中国又叫“蟢子”，在民间是喜庆的预兆。在英国，蜘蛛也同样是吉祥的象征。

No matter how ugly and scary they are, however, having one in your home was considered good luck, as the spider would protect the house and family from any misfortune.

不管蜘蛛有多吓人恐怖，家里有蜘蛛是好运的象征，蜘蛛可以保佑房屋和家庭免遭不幸。

MAGPIE 喜鹊

国内有句俗语：“喜鹊喳喳叫，必有喜事到”，喜鹊被中国人视为吉祥之鸟。虽然在英国也有类似的说法，但却是根据见到喜鹊的数量而定的。

One for sorrow, (看见一只喜鹊会带来悲伤)

Two for mirth, (看见两只喜鹊会带来欢乐)

Three for wedding,(看见三只喜鹊会带来婚礼)

Four for birth, (看见四只喜鹊会带来新生的婴儿)

Five for silver, (看见五只喜鹊会捡到银子)

Six for gold. (看到六只喜鹊会捡到金子)

BEAR 狗熊

If a child ride on the back of the bear will get the protection of the gods, would not get down with whooping cough.

如果一个小孩子骑在狗熊的背上就可以受到神灵的保护，避免患上百日咳等疾病。

RABBIT 兔子

英国很多人相信黑兔子是他们祖先的灵魂的象征，可以带来好运。

In Wales, people often make their baby touch rabbit’s foot.They believe it can bring happiness in their children’s life. Besides, if people say ‘white rabbits’ on the first day of the month, they will be lucky in the whole month. However, because the rabbits live in the dark holes, many other people in Britain consider rabbit as the symbol of witch. If they meet a rabbit, they will think it’s the harbinger of death.

在威尔士，人们会用兔子的脚去触碰婴儿，他们相信这会给宝宝带来一生的好运。而且，人们如果在一个月第一天喊了一声“白兔子”，就会为全月带来好运。不过由于兔子生活在黑暗的地洞里，所以英国有些地区的人们也把它们视为是巫婆的化身，有些人甚至认为遇见白兔子，是死亡的征兆。

BAT 蝙蝠

It is said to be bad luck if you see bats flying and hear their cries. In the middle ages it was believed that witches were closely associated with bats. 

据说，如果你看到蝙蝠在飞，听到它们的叫声，那真是运气不好。在中世纪，人们相信女巫与蝙蝠有着密切的联系。

SPARROW 麻雀

If a sparrow enters a house it is an omen of death to one of the people who live there. 

如果麻雀进入一个房子，它是一个预兆死亡的人谁住在那里。

In some areas it is believed that to avoid bad luck, any Sparrow caught must be immediately killed otherwise the person who caught it will die.

在某些地区，人们认为为了避免厄运，任何捕获的麻雀必须立即被杀死，否则捕获它的人就会死亡。

 CAT 猫

In Britain, black cat means good luck. If a black cat crosses your path, you will have good luck all day.

在英国，黑猫意味着好运。如果黑猫穿过你走的的路，你将一整天都走运。

A tabby or a grey cat come into your house and want to stay here, that is a sign that you will get money.

假如一只虎斑猫或灰猫进入你的房子，并想留在这里，这预示着你会走财运了。
